Hello! My name is Quawntashea Bailey and I am a FaithJustice Fellow
for the 2019-2020 academic year. Being a recent college grad, shout out
to the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, New Jersey! I walked
away with new friendships, a deeper desire for independence and a
Bachelor of Arts degree in English! Where did all of that lead me? I am
glad you asked! All the overthinking and overly emotional moments lead
me to the Center for FaithJustice.
Have you ever been in a season of transition (synonyms; transformation, conversion, adaptation, adjustment, alteration… you get it) in your life, that you had no control over the outcome, but only your actions? It was not until the senior year of my college career, that I was often repeatedly asked ” So what are your plans”? or “So what are you going to do with that “degree”, that I realized that the very thing that made me happy and even produced joy in my life was the very act of serving others.
I graduated with the notion that “I wanted to serve because I was served”. When I committed to doing a summer dedicated to serving the youth in Trenton, and other surrounding communities, the questions changed and so did my faint notion of response. When I was asked, “why did I choose to spend my summer as LeaderworX participant”? I automatically responded, “Because I wanted to learn how to make service a lifestyle”. Indeed, I spent my summer learning that very principle.
As my summer of service experience came to an end, I encountered yet another transition that revealed that my journey as a servant was not over. Thus, revelation aided me in my commitment to pursuing a year of service with the Center of FaithJustice. For the 2019-2020 academic year, I will be serving with Catholic Charities the Diocese of Trenton. Where I will gain hands-on experience in the world of a non-for-profit organization. I plan to utilize such experience by pursuing a master’s degree in Public & Organizational Relations at Montclair State University in Fall 2020.
